Studying diligently, as always for the Illustration Friday drawing...this weeks topic being swim, I came across the interesting fact that in France, one cannot wear ordinary swimming shorts in a swimming pool...one has to don ones' Speedos. (see Jacques above.) Next time I go to France, I'm going to the beach.

ja ja, es igual que en Brasil, ahí se llaman "sunga" yo no me atrevo a usarlos!!!
ReplyDeleteYo tampoco Hombre!!!!
DeleteAaaaaaaahhhhhh! Jacques needs a man-bra too. I have seen those speedos on Europeans vacationing in the US. It looks so odd to us used to looking at baggy swimming shorts. Great interpretation.
ReplyDeleteI don't think you'll see them on many Europeans from the UK!!
DeleteHe looks terrific in both. Now how about some more modeling? In addition to the man-bra, how about some leather chaps with fringe and a bow tie? A kilt? Or perhaps a smoking jacket! (Now might be a good time to admit I can't imagine how he got that Speedo over those feet. Haha.)
ReplyDeleteCinders...That's it I'm not drawing any more of this 'model'...I think you are getting over excited!!! :)
DeleteBy the way he poses I think Jacques prefer speedos...
ReplyDeletewhatever makes people happy
I'd choose a nice clean beach over any swimming pool.
Thanks Ana...I'm glad somebody spotted that!!!
DeleteYes, Jacques is definitely a speedos guy. And I think he would love a career in modeling, please consider....
ReplyDeleteNo more Jacques I afraid of an X rating for this blog!!!
DeleteI see that Jacques has Moobs.
ReplyDeleteI wonder about the logic behind only Speedos in the piscine en france.
From what I can read...it seems that it's a hygiene issue. Apparently, according to French swimming pool authorities, swimming shorts or baggies could be sat around in, played football in etc etc and could drag any number of undesirable objects into a swimming pool....the mind boggles.(I am assuming no one would wear speedos to play football in the park.)On an opposite stance I think the UK has banned the speedos as being indecent and the cause of embarrassment for the wearer and the on looker...Most men don't want to be seen in them!
DeleteOh heavens, the logic of a French brain and a Brit brain are on opposite ends of a scale! But good to know. Thanks!
DeleteI'd like to say I was looking at the comparison between the swimming attire......but I just couldn't get past the man boobs. So I had to go back and refocus. Yup, I'd say Jacques was feeling a lot more confident in the grape smugglers than the trunks. Good thing he's French!
ReplyDeleteWhat is deez grapp smewgler? It cannot appen en Francais no?
DeleteNow I understand why they have thrown me out of the pool in France
ReplyDeleteIts funny how you always find out in the end.
DeleteHe seems to be more comfortable in the speedos. You notice how he averts his gaze while wearing the boxers? Well, I noticed.
ReplyDeleteI say keep the speedos but he should pull the shorts over his head.
You could be right Ted...I hadn't noticed that until you said.
DeleteHa ha ha ha!! Funny guy!! I've got to agree with Ted... way more confident in the speedos. I think he must be French. In the shorts he looks like he's trying to get away with wearing his boxers as swimmers and hoping no one will notice!!!
ReplyDeleteNo Mademoisselle...ee eez smewgling ze grapps in la boxers!!
Deleteyour illustrations always crack me up!! love it. Thanks for making me smile. xox
ReplyDeleteThanks Pauline...I love it if someone cracks up!!!!!XXXX
Deletegood lord, the guy could use a couple of speedos on his chest as well.
ReplyDeletedefinitely looks better in swim shorts...
(as do most)
those are some really assertive toes he's got too...
I'm avoiding this guy no matter what he's wearing...
but really fun character, I must say.
I agree...swimshorts are the way to go...Speedos (IMO are positively indecent.)His toes are a bit strange...but I have got a habit of drawing things badly and just leaving them how they turn out (direct pen and no pre drawing!!)
DeleteI think in the interest of public safety, he should don a wetsuit ;)
ReplyDeleteI think a wetsuit might give him the support where its obviously needed!
DeleteDo I dare comment on that? Can that possibly be true? Both versions above are equally horrifying. That person should be in the WATER, not standing where people can debate the merits of Speedos vs. shorts. But I agree that HE seems to feel manlier in the Speedos, even though we might disagree.
