IF Lost
Size: 24 x 32 cms
Media: graphite on paper
Pens: mechanical pencils
This week I decided to start drawing various characters on a piece of paper. Each day that passed I worked a little more and added a couple of more. I challenged myself to finish the drawing and make it fit the Illustration Friday topic word...I decided this with only ten characters drawn. The topic this week is 'Lost'.

Gracias Amigo!
DeleteOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHH!!! I LOVE THIS! Where is gerard? he is lost! Rod this is great. A different scenery indeed and I love the ominous clouds in the background.
ReplyDeleteGerard must be lost or taking a well earned rest!
DeleteOh my gosh, what a great idea for a drawing exercise! But geez, could you stop making such happy people for a few minutes?
ReplyDeleteSo cool blown up to the size of my monitor screen! The people are so all great, and each one just a bit differently depressed than the next. And some just look sad. And all packed in like sardines. I wonder if they have access to a bathroom? Snacks? Lovely job with the shadows.
If you draw smiling people...it changes the dynamic!
DeleteI really like the guy who has the lazy eye.. oh wait, there's another guy with a lazy eye.. and another...
ReplyDeleteOkay, now I'm starting to like the one guy who's eyes are on the same axis, cause he's so unique.
Is the room full of 'found' people a lot more festive, Rod?
The found room could well be on the cards now Ted! As I started drawing this before I had the word...the lazy eyes seems to be the way forward with the 'lost' look!
DeleteObviously Gerard is found.
ReplyDeleteThis would look great as a wood cut. A new exercise for you?
It took quite a while with a pencil....so unless someone commissioned me to make a woodcut...the carving tools will stay locked away!
Deleteso much to see, great expressions, Rod!
ReplyDeleteCheers Nelleke!...the expressions seemed to find themselves with no real effort from me..they just flowed from the pencil.
DeleteThis is got to be my favorite of yours... there's been a few..
ReplyDeleteBut this one is so specific while leaving the main thread up for grabs that it can keep one visually occupied for hours. What are their individual stories?
I like the dancing shadows, and the varied expressions throughout.
Great piece Rod.
.
Thanks Richard..their individual stories could take a while!
DeleteInteresting faces! This is your blog, but maybe it would be time to draw somen women here. Fragile ones, please :)
ReplyDeleteWomen!!!Fragile ones? I'll have a think about that!!
DeleteI love the scene you've captured, very moody and despairing. You can see the sense of loss in all of them.
ReplyDeleteCheers Claire!
DeleteExcellent work man!!!!! I love these characters, and they've got so much character!!!! :D
ReplyDeleteThe dude directly in the middle of your illustration is my favourite! hehe :P
Thanks Man!!
DeleteThey're all crouched down in the bottom of the basket of a hot air balloon. Is there a kitty in there with them? ;)
ReplyDelete(P.S. Brilliant approach to the topic! I absolutely love the guy in the front with his hands over his compadre's eyes).
You are talking balloons again Elizabeth!
Deletesomething weird is happening
ReplyDeletewhen I want to come a tu blog
yo voy a google+ y me dice que Rod no comparte nada conmigo!!!!!!!
Do you know what????????????
Si, hace muchos años he tocado una guitarra eléctrica...si no estoy dibujando estoy tocando!!!Me encanta rock and roll igual que arte!!!
DeleteStrong piece, I feel it in my soul.
ReplyDeleteCheers Bill!
DeleteLooks the way it feels to be in an elevator, to me. I imagine the bing of each floor announced until the doors open on: Lost. Now what? Great stuff. Love the graphite feel of this, the story each character holds in his face, posture.
ReplyDeleteWho pressed the lost button? Thanks!!
DeleteHi Rod...finally worked it out....with us there YOU had to get lost....keep it up
ReplyDeleteI think it was more of a case that we got Lost together...It was great to see you!
DeleteJa Ja, no problem hombre!!!! voy a google o voy a blogger, es divertido :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a good summer weekend. take your children to the beach, collecting beautiful shells, make sand castles!
Oh, I can not get the butterflies to those girls, if I could swear that I would ;DDDDDDDDDD
