I was not going to write anything with this post as it seemed to fit the theme of ' Silent', but..... (silent pause)......I want to explain my thoughts. I felt that there is a relationship between light and noise and dark and silent, and to try and portray that, I have used a cross-hatching technique which gradually applies more ink to the paper by applying more black ink lines, eliminating the white and therefore eliminating half of the sound. On these experimental drawings, the sound comes in from the right and disappears to the left. This could be reversed I suppose, but in my mind, if I was to draw silence, the page would have been black...... some might think white!

Interesting idea about light/noise and silence/dark. Also, beautiful drawings!
ReplyDeleteI'm feeling!
ReplyDeletemy right ear is killing me with so much noise, and my left ear, is silent, what a pleasure. Now I cover my left eye and I just hear noise .... Could you please lower the volume? No, no, no. is ok, I shut my two eyes and there was total silence.
Oh. but that I can not see your wonderful drawing! :(
eh, recién I saw tu header!!!
ReplyDeleteVery buena!!!
take cuidado, con the pen,
no es easy to digest!!!!
:D
Congratulations!
Hi Pen Mover!.......(silent pause)..... Interesting thoughts......... (silent pause).........But...(silent pause)
ReplyDeleteThe noise and the silence are (silent pause)....... inseparable. The silence is an experience: if you do not know what is noise you do not know what is silence............(silent pause)
Ach....(silent pause)......I would say that silence in your drawing is white : noise is coming from left (dark) and on the right it become more and more silent.....(silent pause)
I say nothing......
I have it about noise ( waves) . But if it is about digital noise, than I would agree with you: it is black. BLACK. ......(silent pause)
But what is true?
the Truth gets a chance to be heard in the purity of silence.
Have a nice weekend!!!
What an interesting reflection of Art is jok...
ReplyDeleteI might think that as the shadow is not nothing but the imprint of the object illuminated. silence is what remains after the noise. You never came out of a place where the music is very very strong?
Piiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
hi...
ReplyDeletei just began dry point . cross hatching into plexi gives great patina surface. it also gives me hand cramps. your work would be gorgeous as prints.
thank you for commenting to me.
I love your characters and what you wrote here with this post..........have a good Sunday.....
ReplyDeleteVery philosophical post! :-) Hard to say which one I would see as silence, black or white. Depends on context and line quality I guess. This cross-hatching is absolutely beautiful!
ReplyDelete(Just noticed your new header, so cool! I want one too...)
ReplyDeleteAnd I did it an other way: I consumed the content of the bottle and now I feel silence :)
ReplyDeleteI enjoy your thoughts and drawings
ReplyDeleteyes. great drawings.
ReplyDeleteYes, I suppose black would signify silence better, but maybe that's because nighttime is usually quieter than daytime.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand; is it just me or does anybody else think of Han Solo in carbonite??
I like your new header. Very clever idea to remove your black mustache and put it in your mouth.
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone...You are a clever bunch...succeeded in confusing the hell out of me(Roberto/Art is jokken)..Ted..I always got confused with Starwars too! Sasa..the header is fairly straight forward photoshop work...hardest bit is to get it the right size to fit across the top of the blog....
ReplyDeleteHmmmm... 'white noise' as a term is already taken, and refers to what I imagine is a somewhat high key gray tone... I think if you're talking about light, black is quiet -and white is noisy, but when I think of ink or paint I see the reverse... white is quiet, -and black is noisy.
ReplyDeletenice grist for the mill Rod.
.
Wow, you have set me off on a philosophical/psychological journey here-- this is a variation of synesthesia, I think! For me each mark on white paper is like a little sound (perhaps because of the scritchy noise the pen makes) & yet when enough marks build up, a silence does begin to descend... I'm glad you wrote your thoughts on this; I have been silently pondering them for some time!
