I think I'll have to stop thinking like a Brit...Having said that, none of my British FB peeps seemed to understand either...oh well, I'm not going to explain the meaning of this...if its lost, then its lost!
Oh come on, explain it. I've had problems with people in other countries not understanding my takes on American slang, many times. Why were boxing gloves supposed to help his eyesight?
Its hard to dissect a joke without ruining it...But if nobody gets it in the first place then maybe it should be explained... :) I will hint at its meaning instead... 1) I originally drew this for Illustration Friday word prompt...Refrain. 2) Myth...some things apparently make you blind. 3) As is the word 'refrain'...some things help stop/refrain from the act which apparently makes one blind!! There...I dissected it... :)
Oh and also the Guys name is Percy...which is in fact cockney rhyming slang : A Percy Thrower : http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Percy%20Thrower
BTW Percy Thrower was a famous British TV Gardner...so the cockneys just used his name as it was a household name....and he was a 'grower' of plants...Percy Thrower...grower.
Having said all of this about Percy...that was just an addition to the joke....not the main joke.
Oh hahaha, thanks for the explanation, Rod! At least now I understand and it's still very funny, and British! hahahahaha.(witch getting the giggles....)
Ohhhhhhhh... NOW I get it. HaHa. I think the saying 'you'll go blind if you do that', is universal. Maybe if you gave us more information? Maybe if you called him Mr. Wanker instead of the exclusive British slang name of Percy? Am I a wanker for telling you how to tell a joke? Yeah, probably.
Buen dibujo amigo!!! cada vez mejor!!!!!!!!!! :)) (Algo extraño es ver a un boxeador con lentes)
ReplyDeleteMaybe he can box his way out of that box, in spite of it.
ReplyDeleteI must be British in my thinking!
DeleteOh good, the gloves didn't help; I was afraid he was going to make a 'spectacle' of himself.
ReplyDeleteHaha!! I must stop thinking like a Brit!
