Was the interview for the job just a normal one? It wasn't a normal job after all. Did he keep anything hidden? Its always best to tell the truth in an interview. They will find out in the end. How did he handle the questions. I'm wondering how it all went....The Vatican: "You tell us why you think you should get the job, Francis."....Francis: "I used to be a bouncer!" The Vatican: "You got da job Franky."

  1. Your mind moves in strange and wonderful ways, friend... Love the image. I'd give this guy the job, too.

  2. A bouncer? That friendly old man? I'd like to see these big muscles. A pity that he will not show up in a T-shirt. So I have to go by your drawing, which is VERY GOOD!!!, by the way. It really stands. The attitude reminds me more of pope Borgia, and then I mean, Jeremy Irons. The one and only pope for me! Bye, XXWW!!
Ps Curious what Roberto will say about his fellow-Argentine. He will know if you made this up or not.

    1. Thanks Hedwig! The Borgia Palace is not too far from where I live, in Gandia. Jeremy Irons doesn't live here though.

    2. I'm glad that everybody here agrees that he is a very nice pope. I'm not religious, but I do like this man with his simple manners. I looked up the link and saw that his favourite movie is a Danish one: Babbette's feast. It's a great movie. If you ever get a chance to see it, see it.

  3. Would have loved to see that job interview... They say that you should dress one or two levels higher than the job that you're going for, do you think he dressed as God?

  4. I want to explain that I am a Catholic, I'm not practicing, I have not
too much respect for priests, nuns, or even the Pope.
but this pope is very loved in my country and even me I have affection for him, the current government of my country began a campaign to discredit the Cardinal Bergoglio, when he was elected pope, and later they used photographs of him, next to the president for political campaigning.
this pope, as a cardinal, went to the shantytowns, slums to which, sometimes not even the police come (obviously in The Advanced Europe, these things do not exist, Europe is soo First World... poor of us, we are so far from the first world) to help poor people.
This pope, as a cardinal, he traveled by bus and subway with all common people. never did by car with driver,
I do not really understand why the word "bouncer"
This post really does not make me laugh.
Sorry Rod, I did not like
Maybe you could try to make jokes with leaders of other religions, is not a good idea? test, with Muslims.

    1. Many years ago, apparently,Pope Francis earned money in working as a doorman to a disco or nightclub in Argentina when he was a young student. In my country a doorman is called a 'Bouncer'. The joke was not intended to be bad to the Pope. It was the other way. He is in touch with the people he is protector as well of the giant doors of the Vatican. I am sorry if you don't understand my drawing it wasn't intended to offend anyone. Europe is not 'sooo first world'...there is a lot of poverty here. I for one, have two children and have been without work for more than two years.

      Read no.7!

You can't believe everything you read in the Newspapers...I know. But this post was made based on that info...It seemed ironical and funny that such a nice guy like this could also put on a tough face!! Its light hearted Fun thats all :)

    3. OK. Rod, all cleared, no problem.
I repeat, I am not deeply religious, I do not go to church regularly, but, I repeat again, this pope is not a bad man. He is an important Argentine in the world, beyond religion. and I hate that he has been the target of a smear campaign by a government that is increasingly making things worse. and that people abroad, maybe take only part of the information.
Te pido disculpas si entendí mal tu ilustración y si fui agresivo.
      me produjo bronca
      Sabes qué significa bronca, verdad?

    4. Jaja no hay problema...eres mi Amigo. Si entiendo lo que es bronca!
I accept your apologies my friend!!! I am relieved that you can see the truth behind this post. It is easy to get things wrong and become angry...particularly in another language...I live in Spain and do this almost on a weekly basis!!
I don't like smear campaigns and would always stand against them...I make up my own mind from what I see. I must admit that I didn't know of a smear campaign against the Pope already...I would not have made this post if I had known and that people may misinterpret my joke as joining in against him. He always seems like such a nice guy to me...but that's how my friends from Argentina are...no surprise!

  5. I am not a catholic or even very religious, but maybe that's why I just dont get this one. A very good drawing, though, Roderick.

  6. I think this is a funny drawing Rod! I think maybe even he would have a laugh at this, remembering his past (if it's true!) and thinking about where is is now.

  7. Ah hahahaha. He is awesome! Wonderfully strong. And the black background works so well! I think you put quite a lot of time into this one and it shows. One of my favorites! :D

I'd also like Robert, above, to know that I am not in the least bit religious, and I don't read all the news all the time, but even the little I have read tells me this pope is a man who speaks for the people with no voice, and doesn't feel he is better than them. If there is a smear campaign, it is not working on many people. :D

    1. Thanks Cindy.I must admit...just the normal short amount of drawing time spent on this...usually less than an hour!!(It took you nearly an hour...I hear very one say!!!...look more like five mins!)

  8. When I saw the word 'Hidden' for if, I wondered what you would come up with. Certainly did not expect to see The Pope making his presence felt here and that too as a bouncer :)

ps: enjoyed reading through the link

  9. that frame almost reads as a closet, implying he was a closet bouncer until he came out. Composition wise, I like the crowded feel ~~just right for the subject.

  10. Hey, Roderick, are we going to see a 'Black Douglas' drawing from you? I'm curious about this character who scares children into being good, after your Dad mentioned him. Reminds me of Krampus. Is he as cool looking as that?

    1. Haha! I don't know Mr.Edward..The Black Douglas I found on google doesn't seem to be the same child scarer that my Dad mentioned...I'll have to ask him about him. Krampus would have persuaded me to be good though...he's not a nice looking guy!!!

    2. Yeah, Krampus is a bad ass. Let's see... do I want to be good and get presents for Christmas, or be bad and taken to Hell in a basket where Krampus will beat me with a switch forever...? hmmmm. let me think...
